Introduction
Xena & Kin (artist name, they/them) is an artist who uses analog and digital illustration techniques, vector graphics, digital animation, and creative writing to express themes of identity, fantastical worlds and how mental health intersects with our perception of reality and ourselves.
Their wide range in art styles supports their works in sparking joy when the world needs it most, and grounding dark subject matter that bring the public a greater understanding of people suffering from mental health disorders and illnesses.
Influences
Xena & Kin started their illustration journey through their love for Japanese animation as a child. When struck by the effects of dissociative identity disorder later, they turned to art as their only source of comfort and way to communicate their experiences.
Across this website and their art practice, they refer to themselves as multiple people and proudly present this aspect to raise awareness and improve public perception of those with multiple personalities. The personalities of Xena & Kin each possess their own interests and skills in art and design, lending them a wide skillset, style range and insight into diverse topics.
Resume
After freelancing since 2013, volunteering as an illustrator, graphic designer and leading the advertising & branding department at MeWell Community since 2021, they launched their own art studio named Xena & Kin based in Switzerland in 2022, they turned to further develop their art career by studying at the Zurich University of The Arts (ZHDK) where they are currently striving to earn their BA in visual communications.
